A man is fighting for life after police tasered him and fired bean bag rounds, ending a siege in Melbourne.

The 46-year-old barricaded himself inside a home in the southeast suburb of Frankston North for more than three hours on Thursday.

He was armed with knives and appeared agitated when officers entered the home to negotiate with him, according to a Victoria Police spokeswoman.

She said the man was confrontational and officers tasered him multiple times before firing bean bag rounds.

He then became unresponsive and was given medical care.

No one else was at home at the time or injured during the incident.

Victoria Police’s homicide squad and professional standards command are investigating.
