A roadworker has died after being hit by a car overnight on Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway at Clifton Hill.
Emergency services were called to the inner-city crash near Hoddle Street about 12.15am on Wednesday after the man was struck by a Toyota sedan.
He was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Police said the 27-year-old driver was arrested and is assisting with inquiries.
The Eastern Freeway was expected to remain closed for some time on Wednesday as investigators examined the scene.
